Our Difference :
smarts, aspiration & design-leadership

Our capacity to compete successfully and deliver world-class software and leveraged value to our clients lies in our core values and competencies.

Smarts

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."

Albert Einstein

Intelligence is ultimately a measure of how effective we are at navigating to the places we need or want to go to. As a technology partner, we assist our clients in creating software-based pathways that lead them in the direction of their desired horizons.

Our intelligence is made up of 3 essential abilities;

  • Empathy and understanding: To fundamentally grasp what value our clients are attempting to create, and the constraints that shape the relevant financial, social and technology domains
  • Technological savvy: An in-depth understanding of current and upcoming technology is essential to the selection of the best tools, and the avoidance of the weakest
  • Design: Design is the art of integration: of knowing both the available "path-making" materials and the destination, and then orchestrating them together so that the most effective route reveals itself.

Through our commitment to excellence and it's application to our own tried and trusted software development tools and methodologies, Outsmart brings our smart technology + clever thinking to the fulfillment of our client's technology opportunities.

Aspiration

"The greatest leverage you can create for yourself is the desire to live up to your own standards."

Anthony Robbins

The desire for world-class excellence informs all of the work we do and is the essential platform of our core design principles. We have a strong continuous-improvement and performance-driven culture that strives for developing best-of-breed technology components and solutions.

Design leadership

"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

Johann Wolfgang van Goethe

The Nobel Laureate Herbert Simon defined design as the process by which we devise courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones. At Outsmart the notion of leverage and design are intimately connected, as we strive to create & synergise product, technology & interface designs that are exceptionally effective avenues to our client's "preferred situations". We hold a firm belief in the efficacy of investing in robust and elegant designs that maximise the return for each of the stakeholders, and we do this by remembering these principles:

1. Satisfy the customer

Our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable software. We place a high priority on our ability to empathise with our client's and their users and you will see this reflected in their satisfaction.

2. Build in flexibility and robustness

"Loose coupling" describes an approach in which the interfaces where components meet are designed in such a way as to reduce the interdependency between them. This reduces the risk that changes within one component will create unanticipated changes within another component. Loose-coupling is at the heart of a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) and makes for robust and flexible systems. Consequently this also leads to more flexible and dynamically re-configurable user workflow and business processes.

3. Keep it simple

Simplicity does not mean compromising on the functionality, performance or sophistication of a solution. Simplicity is simply the achievement of maximum effect with minimum means. The tendency to over-engineer is rife in the software development industry and leads to bloated and prematurely retired systems. A focus on simplicity in our development helps to keep our software systems more manageable, flexible, reusable and longer living.

4. Stand on the shoulders of others

Success comes from a combination of innovation and refinement. The great physicist and mathematician, Sir Isaac Newton observed "If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants". Newton clearly had an original mind, but like other great innovators he built on foundations laid by others. Innovators always stand on the shoulders of others - that's how progress is made.

In the technology there are many "giants" whose shoulders we stand on:

  • Internet communication protocols like SOAP, HTTP & RSS
  • Data persistence and sharing standards like XML
  • RIA development tools including Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex & AJAX
  • The Technology Partners with whom we co-deliver value to our clients

By using, refining, and then building upon the previous ground made by our peers and forerunners, we leverage their smarts (and our own!) to create decisive innovations in businesses like yours.
